Shalom! How’s it going? So, you’re not doing too awesome. But, as we say in the Middle East, lo kara kloom. No worries. See, in Israel, we created a storytelling methodology based on our experience of running from rockets near Gaza. And now we’re here to help you up your social media game and tell better stories. Yalla! Let’s do it.

1. Say what you’re trying to say

Where I come from, we don’t hold back. We’ll stand really close to you and say exactly what’s on our mind. On social media, that’s a major plus. First: pinpoint your audience. Next: create 1-3 messages that are clear, honest, and straightforward. Now, go ahead and share. Feels good, doesn’t it?

2. Name your end game

Why are you spending hours on social media when you could be lying on the Tel Aviv beach? Maybe you have a great reason, like: are you trying to find your tribe, make your people press “like” a few thousand times, sell more of your stuff, or get your family to finally understand what you’re doing with your life? Life is short, so figure it out and get to work.

3. Be in more than two places at once

If you’re already on Facebook (and let’s be honest, who isn’t?), it’s time to get on Twitter or Instagram or LinkedIn. Next, start posting like crazy — and by that I mean, at least three times per week. New to social media and don’t have much to share? Jerusalem wasn’t built in a day. Find online content that speaks to your (brand’s) soul and re-post it. Yesh.

4. Plan for tomorrow — and the day after tomorrow

Don’t freak out whenever it’s time to post. Create a content bank where you can throw all sorts of fantastic stuff — photos of hummus, videos about making hummus, links to hummus menus, listicles about the top 10 places to get hummus… or whatever it is you’re selling. Then drop it all into a content calendar, schedule it to be published, and boom — you’re good to grab that mid-day hummus!

5. Be really, really awesome

There’s more to social media than cat videos. Post all different kinds of content — images, quotes, memes, infographics. Shake things up. And end every single one with a call-to-action or directions for your audience to share with their millions of friends.

Implement all of these strategies and then measure your social media strategies again in three months. Want more guidance from the pros? Check out 15 Seconds to Unforgettable, our authentic and unique guide to learn how to filter out the noise and get your story heard.

Pretty good but you’ve still got a ways to go

Israel is a crazy place — and yet, it thrives on tourism. That’s not because we tell average stories about the country. Our stories have to be golden, authentic, and incredible each and every time. They have to make people read more, ask questions, and get on a plane. Don’t settle for anything less than the best.

2. Find your tribe.

Your people are out there — you just need to hunt them down. Get super specific when targeting posts. By that, I mean that your photo of a pita stuffed with falafel and a diamond ring should go to women, ages 29-30, living in Tel Aviv, who are in a relationship. You’re welcome.

3. Plan for tomorrow — and the day after tomorrow

Don’t freak out whenever it’s time to post. Create a content bank where you can throw all sorts of fantastic stuff — photos of hummus, videos about making hummus, links to hummus menus, articles about the top 10 places to get hummus… or whatever it is you’re selling. Then drop it all into a content calendar, schedule it to be published, and boom — you’re good to grab that mid-day hummus! And by the way, there’s no shame in self-promotion. Get your staff to share your company’s stuff on their personal pages, too. It works.

4. Make them talk, laugh, shout, and click

Get your people to say stuff. If you’re posting and they’re responding and then you’re responding, you’re having a conversation. Crazy, right? And that, my friends, is the goal.

5. Be much cooler than you actually are

Maybe you were a nerd in middle school. Maybe you sucked your thumb well into high school. It doesn’t matter. Now it’s your time to be super trendy — on social media. Use the hottest hashtags. Post your opinions on topics that everyone cares about. Become that person who always knows what’s hot and what’s not.

6. Be really, really awesome

There’s more to social media than cat videos. Post all different kinds of content — images, quotes, memes, infographics. Shake things up. And end every single one with a call-to-action or directions for your audience to share with their millions of friends.

So close and yet…

You’re the guy getting top shelf liquor at the Tel Aviv club. You’re the woman who people always want to grab hummus with. You’re ridiculously cool. And now it’s time to become unforgettable.

1. Become top-of-the-Newsfeed awesome

Post stuff that makes people laugh, cry, believe, and buy. Get super personal. Create your own hashtags. Interview famous people — or at least people that are famous among your tribe.

2. Make believers out of your staff

Train your team to produce the stuff that makes your people go crazy. Also, get your staff to share your company’s goods on their personal pages. There’s no shame in self-promotion. It totally works.

3. Catch ‘em all

When people x out of your page, don’t just sit there with your hands in your pockets. Be Israeli and have some chutzpah! Insert a Facebook pixel and catch them before they go. Then retarget them with sponsored ads. Why else do you think Silicon Valley is constantly buying out Israeli companies? We’re relentless!

4. Get in with the cool crowd

Track down the leaders in your industry. Say, “Hey, how’re ya doing?” and other relevant things. And then find ways to work together, a.k.a. do things that drive their traffic toward you. Oh, and that also help them.

Implement all of these strategies and then measure your social media strategies again in three months. Want more guidance from the pros? Check out 15 Seconds to Unforgettable, our authentic and unique guide to learn how to filter out the noise and get your story heard.
